Our Story
We’ve been a member of the community for more than 10 years! Learn about our history below.
March 2014
Julie Rutherford opened Whitetop Yoga on Plumb Alley in Abingdon, VA.
September 2017
After Julie and her family took an opportunity to move home to Michigan, Robyn Raines surprised everyone (including herself) buying the business. Not a yoga teacher and working as a full-time non-profit administrator at the time, Robyn was a regular yoga student (both at WTY & everywhere she could find a studio) and she believed in what Whitetop Yoga brought to the Abingdon community.
April 2021
WTY was hanging in there during a global pandemic when landlord’s plans changed and Barter Theatre allowed the studio to temporarily rent space on Main Street in Abingdon, while Robyn, and her husband, Chris Lambert, began work on the studio’s next home.
It seems historically important to share that Robyn first began this transformation in 2013 with Marc Maiorana renovating a 1950’s cinderblock dairy barn into Marc’s metalsmith studio.
Whitetop Yoga came home in April 2022
Now celebrating over 10 years in the community, Whitetop Yoga is a studio dedicated to connecting the body, mind, & breath to support individuals in balance, flexibility, strength, & stress relief. WTY has 16 regularly-scheduled classes per week both in-studio and livestream. There are monthly New Moon, Full Moon, and Bhakti classes, as well as a WTY Book Club. A variety of workshops and series are scheduled throughout the year too. Private sessions (including prenatal) are also available. All are welcome and encouraged.
